Event: Introduction to Internship/Job Hunting Resources
Date, Time, Location: early/mid-Fall
Program Learning Goals: Better enable residents to function in, as non-first years, the increasingly-important professional aspects of their times as students. While importance of internship, research, etc. experiences can vary by field, exposure and connection to resources that help guide to potential summer plans are never bad things.
Facilitation of Program/Activities Icebreakers: I’ll admit, this would be a lot easier to spell out if I had more than the foggiest idea what resources are available to us, but starting off with some sort of meet-each other/discuss professional interests icebreaker could be great for community building and to start residents off thinking about their goals. This could transition into presentation of available resources, which could look like a lot of different things depending on what resources are available to get from others places on campus, what residents indicate in terms of interest area via pre-planning survey, or otherwise. Finally, leaving ample time for questions or sharing experiences could facilitate further topic exploration and community building.

●What learning outcomes would you connect with the program?
Better enable residents to function in, as non-first years, the increasingly-important professional aspects of their times as students. While importance of internship, research, etc. experiences can vary by field, exposure and connection to resources that help guide to potential summer plans are never bad things.

●What Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion topic will your program be based around?
Equity could be supported through an effort like this. Students come from various backgrounds, and are often unaware of the resources or opportunities available to them, whether as a function of their personal backgrounds, out-of-school circumstances, or perhaps simply having a more or less communicative home academic department. Connection to resources helps facilitate equity in a broad manner.

●What is the purpose behind this program?
Aid residents in beginning to explore their professional prospects in a way that’s salient, but not pressing.

●What will it bring to your community/floor?
An opportunity to gather together, learn about each other, and also learn things to take away beyond even this academic year.
